Will A New Website Change My Search Engine Results?

The short answer: YES. A completely new website will change your existing search engine rank.

Why?

Because when you build a new website from scratch, more than likely the name of each page is going to be different than the pages being replaced.

Example:

If you have a website created with a GoDaddy site builder tool, and then you create a new custom website using say WordPress or Drupal, all those existing page names (URL’s) will be entirely different.

Your current site builder tool site page may be:
www.foliofly.com/best-website-designs-and-mobile-apps.html

Your NEW website page in WordPress may instead be like below:
(Notice one ends in HTML while the other ends in PHP.)
www.foliofly.com/best-website-designs-and-mobile-apps.php

Once you create your new website, you can expect there to be a period of time where your old page URL’s continue to show in Google during searches. When visitors click on an old website link they will actually be brought to your NEW site, but will most likely see what’s called a ‘404 error page’, which you can customize to say whatever you’d like. If you already have a WordPress website, and are building a new site with the same type of content management system – you’re in luck and will be able to keep all your page names completely the same. All your existing page links ranked in Google, Bing, Yahoo, etc..will continue to work perfectly when clicked.
